Founded in 1968, Valsala hospital is an initiative promoted by Dr. Kunjannamma Mathai, a legend of her own. After graduating from Mysore Medical College, she worked in various positions in the Kerala Government Medical Services for 30 years until she retired voluntarily in 1974. She was very much involved in hospital work even at the age of 87. With motherly care and the cheapest rates, the hospital flourished day by day. Valsala was the site at Trivandrum where 50% of the delivery happened. Rather than the money raised, Dr. Kunjannamma Mathai was more satisfied with the scream of a newborn. At Valsala nursing home, although no official count has been made, it can be assumed that more than 2 lakh babies were born.
In 2017, the management chose to rebrand the hospital as Valsala Hospital to serve a larger population by broadening its spectrum of services for patients.
